Evaluation
"Identification of necessary improvements.
When an employee knows and can excel in a position, it becomes more
enjoyable. Few employees want a job that they do not understand, nor one
in which their performance is poor. Some employees may not know about
needed improvements. When an unbiased supervisor conducts a regularly
scheduled appraisal, employees will learn how their performance can be
improved, and both the employee and the operation will benefit". In my situation it was my final project for my English class. We had to design this chair that represents us in the best way, we could draw or paint on every part of the chair to describe up. I was one of the few students that took this project really serious because i wanted to represent what i am as a person, and also my family. The final day of class our chairs had to be finished and present it to both teachers that were in the class room. My teachers always talked to me about getting serious about what i wanted to be, one of the main reasons why i got into fashion course now. After i presented they both complimented me, but also said things that i could improve on that would help me later in college. They compared me to other classmates saying that i was one of the best ones that took is serious. They put confidence in me to keep going in the fashion and art world because they felt i had a true passion for it.

Sexual Harassment and the NFL
There were many human resource issues in the Ray Rice incident and the NFL. I think one of the main issues has to do with the NFL and how they handled the entire situation. The organization removed him indefinitely, which means they can bring him back if they wish. There were many cases like this one; "days after the announcement of the NFL's new domestic violence policy, 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald was arrested for allegedly injuring his pregnant fiancĂ©e. The 49ers, who have said they have a zero-tolerance policy toward domestic violence, allowed McDonald to dress and play Sunday against the Cowboys, saying they need to allow for due process."So why couldn't Ray Rice come back? What he did was completely wrong, but it occurred in his personal life, so why should he be punished by the NFL. "While 10 players were cut from their teams as a result of the incidents, only 12 others received any form of suspension from the league. That means that the remaining 34 cases went unpunished, according to the USA Today database of all NFL player arrests"(https://abcnews.go.com/US/nfl-punished-players-arrested-domestic-violence-goodell-era/story?id=25534452). The NFL knew about this case before the domino affect started because of this case alone. Once Ray Rice was punished, the NFL wanted to take action and handled everyone the same way. "Across the board, NFL players are arrested far less frequently than the general public, with the league’s arrest rate coming in at just 13 percent of the national average for men between the ages of 25 and 29. When looking at specific crimes, though, domestic violence rates are closer to the national average than anything else"(http://www.ibtimes.com/nfl-domestic-violence-how-do-arrests-ray-rice-adrian-peterson-other-players-compare-rest-1690695). Another issue is that this occurred outside of the workplace; which means if someone does something outside their job they can still be fired?

Power Behind the Throne
There were some major human resource issues in this movie.
One was how the boss treated his workers, he talked to them disrespectful as if
they didn’t mean anything to the company, not to mention his workers were all
women. I also caught that many promotions weren’t given to the women who
trained the men who got the job. Also many employees were being let go because
they couldn’t make it on time for work.
Their work schedule wasn’t flexible enough to allow them to come in.
employees were also intoxicated on the job; this maybe caused the employees
work to slow down. But the biggest issue was the boss and how he treated his
employees. He took advantage of one of his employees just to look at her,
almost cheating on his wife. After the other employees heard that they didn’t
have respect for her. Not treating your employees respectfully has a major
effect on the company, but the workers didn’t have the courage to say anything
because they could possibly be fired. All three employees took charged and
changed many things in the company. When the boss came back there were many
changes done that he wanted immediately redone. They used a color-coding method
and had a full time baby-sitting service for mothers that couldn’t watch their
children and work at the same time. They also had a rehab center for the
workers that were intoxicated on the job. When the women took over there was a
20% increase. When the head chair men came to confront the boss he didn’t know
what to explain, he made the main women of this project to explain everything
that they changed.

Raising Minimum Wage
“Since
January of this year, the percentage of 16- to 29-year olds working or actively
looking for work has repeatedly hit historic lows. The consequences of
government-mandated wage hikes include fewer entry-level jobs, which
principally hurt the young people who need those jobs, particularly minorities”(http://www.cnbc.com/id/101834767#.)
I think this is a scary fact,
as a young adult at age 18 looking for a job could be harder in the past. Also
it allows some businesses to hire employees that aren’t ready. Instead of
loosing good employees for more money; this makes it hard for businesses having
to continuously compete. “The study also
concluded that the plan would increase income an average of $3,200, or 21
percent a year, for some 567,000 workers. The study found some potential
negative side effects to the plan, including rising restaurant prices and more
manufacturing leaving the city”(http://www.sfvbj.com/news/2014/sep/02/vica-voices-concerns-minimum-wage-proposal). This also raises concerns with
businesses in the restaurant industry, because raising their prices might lose
customers. Constantly having to battle
with other company’s put the employees in a difficult situation. They have to
decide to stay with a company that they’ve been with, or leave for more money
but a new business. But I also believe
that people could benefit from this, they might have a job that they don’t
like, but finding a job that pays more money that they will enjoy. “Workers whose productivity exceeds that of the minimum wage will
earn more than the minimum wage. So instead of hiking the minimum wage, the
better course would be to ensure that every American who wants a decent
education can get one, regardless of neighborhood or income. That will only
occur when poor Americans have access through vouchers and charter schools to
alternatives to those schools that have served them so poorly to date”( http://www.courier-journal.com/story/opinion/columnists/2014/09/02/raising-minimum-wage-hurts-women-minorities/14955629).

Marijuana in the Workforce
If I were the employer I think I would handle the situation
a little better. What happened to him wasn’t his fault but is help accountable
for the work he does. Like the audio said, he is always in the top 5% for
employees. Just because he uses marijuana to sooth his injury it obviously
doesn’t affect him work ethic. He also
said that marijuana is more effective than any other prescription drug he used.
In my opinion if that was he has to use to be comfortable with work then I
would be fine with that. The thing is that marijuana is legal where they are.
So it us up to the manager to make rules that don’t allow that; legally he is
allowed the use of marijuana. I also believe if the company requires a drug
test, how would they react to his results. If he is using marijuana as a
prescription drug would he still be held accountable for testing positive. I
believe if marijuana isn’t legal in a different state he should be held
accountable. “re-employment drug testing is allowable
in most states, and can be a very effective tool for reducing insurance rates
and potential worker liability issues. Many managers feel a drug-free
environment tends to attract better-quality employment candidates, with the
resulting impact of a higher-quality workforce”(Human Resource Management, Page
123). If they were already requiring a drug test, than he is responsible
for the results. On the other hand “If the test does
not have documented validity and reliability, the results of the tests should
not be used for hiring decisions” (Human Resource Management, Page 123). This is a difficult topic because it varies
between which state your company is located. “When
hospitality organizations design their overall compensation programs, a crucial
area of concern relates to the voluntary benefits they should provide. All
employers must provide those benefits required by law”(Human Resource
Management, Page 285). Prescription
drug plans for purchasing, but is marijuana included if you’re in a state
where its legal.

I think physical attractiveness does play a part in getting
hired, or hiring someone. Many companies use attractive individuals to draw in
attention and hopefully bring in customers. But I think for some companies they
use physical attractiveness to make most of the money such as Hooters. Most of
the males go there to watch sports and have a beer, and obviously look at the
women. “An employer can no longer seek out preferred
individuals based on non-job-related factors such as age, gender, or physical
attractiveness” (Human Resource Management, Page 104). Even though this
is against the law, I still believe companies do this to make more money. Tattoos
have a factor if you’re trying to be hired. If I were interviewing someone who
had visible tattoos I would tell him that they would have to be covered up.
Most companies don’t want any tattoos showing, so you have to cover them no
matter what.” An employer can no longer seek out
preferred individuals based on non-job-related factors such as age, gender, or
physical attractiveness.” (Human Resource Management, Page 78). Scars and personal hygiene, on the other hand
would be difficult for an employer. You obviously can’t tell someone to hide
their personal scars, but for personal hygiene I think I’d be slightly easier.
If there was a open job for more of a labor type workstation they would likely
be hired. But if the job was for a front desk or a server at a restaurant,
where they constantly interact with customers it’d but more difficult. “Race, religion, and national origin questions are always
inappropriate, as is the practice of requiring that photographs of the
candidate be submitted prior to or after an interview. Questions about physical traits like height
and weight have been found to violate the law because they eliminated
disproportionate”(Human Resource Management, Page 117).
